Wedding Photography Intro Guide and FAQ

Everything You Need to Know!

Thanks so much for your interest in our wedding photography services. We know there are hundreds of photographers you can choose from and we're excited that our imagery resonated with you! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you may have or if you're ready to schedule your free wedding photography consultation.

We know that planning a wedding is no simple task. For your convenience, we're happy to guide you through all the things you may want to consider regarding your wedding photography options.

While most things are simple and straight forward on their own, we help you navigate how your different wedding-day priorities may interact with one another. (E.g. - if you value romantic lighting and the opportunity for beautiful sunset photos, we can help you create a solid Timeline so toasts at your reception aren't scheduled for five minutes before the sun goes down!).

We want to make sure that you've got all the pertinent information necessary to make a well-educated decision. We've compiled some valuable tips to consider and a clear explanation of the ACT ONE Experience and what sets us above and apart from all the other photographers out there!

The ACT ONE Wedding Photography Experience

When you're hiring a professional wedding photographer, your "end destination" is a gallery full of beautiful photos you can cherish for a lifetime.

However, the experience on that journey is equally as important. Learn more About us and how we work with you to make sure you remain confident, comfortable, and informed throughout your wedding photography experience.

Considering A Second Photographer?

There are numerous reasons to consider hiring a Second Photographer for your wedding. Second Photographer options are built into some of our standard wedding photography collections. However, before you make your decision, feel free to explore our thoughts on the value of having a Second Photographer at your wedding.

Unplugged Wedding (Ceremonies)

While it may not be for everyone, Unplugged Weddings (or, at least, Unplugged Ceremonies), are gaining popularity. Many couples are encouraging guests to put their phones and cameras away so they can "be fully present and share in the moment."

How We Stay On Top

We have created our Wedding Process Timeline so you know when to expect to hear from us. Obviously, you are welcome to reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns. However, if you don't have anything you need to address with us, we don't want to leave you in the dark.

Professional Experience, Professional Equipment

While professional photographers can achieve quality photos with a $500 camera or a $3500 camera, higher-grade Equipment only makes things easier and better. Equipment is not everything, but it definitely can make a difference. Learn more about the importance of professional primary and backup gear, along with a list of what we use.

Editing VS Retouching

We don't mean to split hairs, but we want our clients to be well informed by establishing clear expectations for deliverables. As photographers, we sometimes forget that not everyone knows the technical ins and outs of all the different photography and processing terms. One question we like to answer and clarify involves Editing VS Retouching. Editing is included as part of all wedding photography collections where as Retouching is an additional add-on.

A: I fell in love with wedding photography in 2009 and have since photographed over 200 weddings throughout Colorado and beyond.

Q: What is your photography style?
A: I have a strong background in documentary/photo-journalistic photography and blend that with traditional and contemporary styles to create artistic and romantic wedding portraits with personality. I capture the moment as it unfolds and jump in with direction when the time is right.

A: We have several reviews on GoogleFacebookThe KnotWeddingWire, and Yelp!

Q: Do you include engagement photos in your collections?
A: Some of our collections include a complimentary Engagement SessionEngagement Sessions can be added to any standard wedding photography collection for $200.

You may exchange an included Engagement Session for a $200 credit toward prints, additional wedding-day coverage, or a Day Before/After or Trash-the-Dress session.

Q: Can I customize a collection based on my needs?
A: Absolutely, just let us know what you are looking for.

Q: Can I give you a list of specific photos we want to be sure to get on our wedding day?
A: Yes, we require a Photo List to make sure we don't miss any photos you want! You are welcome to share images or a Pinterest board that we can use as inspiration.

Q: How many photos do I get?
A: Depending on the length and type of coverage, you will receive between 50 and 100+ images per hour. You can expect at least 350 beautifully-edited wedding photos with a 7-hour collection (and we usually deliver more!).

Q: What am I allowed to do with my photos?
A: Your personal use rights allow you to make prints, create albums, post images online, and send them to friends and family. You will receive full-resolution, edited digital files that are free from signatures and watermarks.

Q: How long does it take to receive my photos?
A: This depends on our wedding volume around your date. During normal volume, your images will be ready for download no later than six (6) weeks after your wedding.

Q: Can I buy prints and other products from you?
A: Yes, we offer a range of products including canvases, albums, and specialty items.

Q: What is your policy about other wedding guests taking photos?

A: We encourage guests to take their own photos as long as they are not interfering with our ability to work quickly and efficiently. We do ask guests to refrain from any action that will compromise the quality of our work. (Consider having an Unplugged Wedding or ceremony.) Per our contract, we will be the only professional photography vendors covering your wedding. Hiring more than one photography company can cause a number of serious issues.

Q: Can you put together a slideshow of the engagement session and show it during the cocktail hour? What about an "instant" slideshow of the ceremony?
A: With enough time (and access to electricity), we can set up our projector and 100" screen for a "Day-Of Slideshow." This service is included in some collections but is dependent on Timeline considerations and ambient lighting levels.

Q: Do you charge a travel fee?
A: The first 50 miles of round-trip travel are included in your wedding collection. Additional miles over 50 are invoiced at $0.50/mile. Travel and accommodation specifics will be detailed in your contract.

Q What kind of camera equipment do you use?
A: I work with professional-grade Sony camera equipment and portable studio lighting. If you're interested, you can check out our Gear List.

Q: Have you photographed at my venue before?
A: We have worked at dozens of fantastic ceremony and reception sites. Let us know where you will be getting married! All of our standard wedding photography collections include a Venue Walkthrough to ensure we are familiar with the space before your wedding.

Q: My venue requires all vendors provide proof of insurance. Can you do this?
A: Yes, just send us the contact information for the venue coordinator.

Q: How far in advance do I need to book with you?
A: We recommend you sign your wedding photography contract at least nine months to one year before your wedding. Popular dates may book out over one year in advance.

Q: How do we book you?
A: A signed contract and non-refundable booking fee are required to reserve your wedding date. (Do not hire a photographer without a contract!)

Q: What information do you need from me before our wedding day?
A: We require a Photo List, Timeline, and all relevant addresses and contact information, which will be included in the contract.

Q: I still have wedding photography questions. How can I learn more?
A: Contact us at info@actonephotos.com or call/text 720-477-0198.

Questions You SHOULD Ask!

Q: How much wedding photography experience do you have?
We recommend selecting a wedding photographer who has photographed at least two full seasons of weddings (40+ weddings as primary photographer).

Q: Do you have professional-grade backup equipment?

Before camera malfunctions strike, be sure your photographer has backup equipment. If your photographer's camera goes down, will you have to stop the wedding until they can make a run to Best Buy?

(You can check out our Gear List.)

Q: May I view some of your previous, full wedding galleries?
Anyone can get a few lucky photos for their portfolio. However, are all of the delivered images of consistent quality? View some of our Full Wedding Galleries.

Q: Is your business licensed and registered?
Since anyone with a camera can call themself a professional photographer, make sure yours is legit!

Q: Is your business insured?
Though no one pays for insurance because they want to use it, it's still something every legitimate business needs to have. To forgo this necessity is simply irresponsible!

Q: Do you charge sales tax?
In 2015, the state of Colorado determined digital photos to be tangible goods and subject to sales tax. It's risky to hire someone who is dodging taxes, as they could be one audit away from non-existence.

Q: Do you have any testimonials you can share from past clients?
A: We have several reviews on GoogleFacebookThe KnotWeddingWire, and Yelp!
